WHERE THEY ARE TODAY...UPDATE ON CHARTER MEMBERS

As a part of the 25th Anniversary celebration of OSPA, a concentrated effort was made to locate the 140 charter members. Here is the information we've gathered by direct contact, third party notification and other sources. If we list information that is incorrect, we apologize. However, please let us know the current status of these OSPA charter members.

Public Schools

Working as school psychologists or psychometrists are: Ann Ahern, Shawne; Jane Bias, Norman; Jacques Cunningham, Tulsa; Greg Garabedian, Stillwater; and Michael Lacy, OYC, Norman.

Continuing to work in other roles are: Roberta Gillespie Clark, Special Education Director, Mid Del; Richard Palazzo, Director of Alternative Programs and Counseling, Tulsa; Billie L. Heiligman Ross, Assistant Superintendent, Claremore; Kathy Hromas, counselor, Stillwater; Karol Ellison Haney, Great PlainsVo-Tech; Bailey F. Hanes, Putnam City; Joe Surber, Ph.D., Assistant Superintendent for Operations , Ponca City. Joe also served as Director of Special Education from 1974-84 and was named Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum in 1984. Working in school psychological services out of state are: Dan Doss, Henderson, Nevada and Vickie, Teel in Colorado.

Those who have retired from active public school service are: Melva Jo Garrett from Lawton; Shirley Bross, Frances Jackson and Gayle Yarholar from Oklahoma City ; Doris Callands, Mary Comfort Magee, Mary Joe Keatley and Laurita Williams, from Tulsa; Edna Word from Yukon and Myles Yoes, from Enid; Melba Case, as Special Education Director, Bethany; Sandra Boyd, Director of the Lawton RESC and psychometrist for Lawton; M. Ruth Taylor, from CSU now in private practice; and Charles Simon, from Yukon who is now an author.

Higher Education

These charter members are currently active in the field: Jim Ahern, Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee; Linda Reese, Ph.D. Northeastern Oklahoma State University, Tahlequah; and Paul Warden, Ph.D., Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.

Retired from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Ada, is Roy T. Maxwell, Ph.D..

State or federal agencies

Working in this area is: Judy Poindexter Collins, Director Child Service Demonstration Center, Cushing. While not a charter member, an early leader of OSPA, Marty Anderson, Ph.D., is the Director of Performance Measurement, Strategic Leadership Center, Connecticut Dept. of Administrative Services.

Those who have retired from active service within the RESC network are: Billie Catron and Fred Catron, Director at Sallisaw; Al Knox, Director at Grove; Leona Lackey, Director at Altus; Nancy Parker, Muskogee; Avis Rambo, Stillwater; Harlyn Smith, Director at Ardmore; Dianne Thompson, Ardmore; and Francis L. White, Anadarko. Other retirees are: Kathleen Osborn, the Child Study Center, but still active in volunteer work in the public school; and Deborah Murphy, Director of the Child Service Demonstration Center, Cushing.

Guidance and Mental Health

Charter members who are active in the field are John T. Adwood, Ph.D., private practice, Oklahoma City; Michael Blazi, Executive Director for LPC and LMFT Licensure for the SDH; Robert Clark, SDH Guidance Center, Okmulgee; Bruce Cook, Ed. D., Director of Maternal and Child Health Services, SDH; H. Brent Dietsche, Home of Hope, Vinita; Bruce Lutz, Kay County Health Department, Ponca City; Gregory Reed, private practice, Stillwater; Lucien Rose, Ph.D., private practice, Oklahoma City; Ted Stephens, private practice , Lawton; Leonard Williams, Edwin Fair Mental Health Center, Ponca City; and Thomas Vaughn, Clinical Training Director, SDH and private practice, Shawnee.

Retired from facilities which offer guidance or mental health services are: Virginia Hoover, Taliferro Mental Health Center, Lawton; and Jim Reese, Ph.D., Tulsa Child Development and Regional Guidance Center.

All Areas

Charter members who are deceased are: Faye Catlett; Barbara Ferguson, Frances Peters, and Ruby Thomas. Teresa Loudermilk, retired from the Holy Trinity School, Okarche, and formerly of the Kingfisher RESC, died March 14, 1999, after a long battle with cancer.
