OSPA STRATEGIC PLAN 1998-99

Goals, Objectives, Activities



GOAL 1 Present a unified voice for the profession of school psychology and serve the association's members by advancing the standards of the profession of school psychology and providing opportunities for professional growth.


Objective 1 Encourage psychometrists/educational diagnosticians to obtain school psychology certification and promote opportunities to do so.

Activity 1 Provide information about higher education and school psychology programs.

Activity 2 Provide information to psychometrists/educational diagnosticians to promote awareness of the expanded role of school psychologists.

Activity 3 Establish a graduate studies award to recognize and provide financial support to two students in Oklahoma school psychology training programs.

Activity 4 Mentor and provide supervision for school psychology students who need an internship site supervisor.


Objective 2 Provide training and support for expanding the roles of school psychologists.

Activity 5 Provide conferences that provide training in collaboration, conductinginservice training, program evaluation, etc..

Activity 6 Write articles for OSPA Today with book reviews, recommended intervention materials, and training videos, etc..

Activity 7 Pursue opportunities to sponsor regional sharing groups to share information and materials which related to expanded roles.


Objective 3 Keep the membership informed of current best practices and professional standards.

Activity 8 Publish articles on ethical and professional standards, state-of-the-art best practices, and current professional issues in OSPA Today.

Activity 9 Provide two conferences per year for training of members to develop and update skills and knowledge.

Activity 10 Publish an OSPA Web page.


Objective 4 Maintain OSPA as an association and perform governance activities as specified in the Constitution, Bylaws, and Operational Handbook.



GOAL 2 Create an environment which promotes comprehensive school psychological services.


Objective 1 Influence public policy and legislation that impacts/effects educational and mental health practices for children.


Activity 11 Monitor legislation, identify key legislators, and coordinate membership response on critical issues.

Activity 12 Participate and maintain active membership in coalitions of similar groups. Foster person to person networks to monitor and advocate for policies that are consistent with OSPA/NASP positions.

Activity 13 Coordinate information exhibits/booths at public meetings and conferences. (Legislative Forum, Creating Partnerships for Oklahoma Families Conference, and CCOSA Annual Summer Conference).


Objective 2 Provide continuing professional development programs which enhance skills and knowledge consistent with best practices of the profession.


Activity 14 Coordinate at least once per year with another group/agency to provide a professional development opportunity (e.g., ODSS, CCOSA, OFCEC, OK School Boards Assn., etc.).

Activity 15 Provide workshop and materials for Executive Board in communication/public relations skills and advocacy training.
