KERR AWARDED FAY CATLETT AWARD IN 1999

Peggy Kerr, Ph.D., Professor and Director of Training in School Psychology and Psychometry at the University of Central Oklahoma has been selected as recipient for the 1999 Fay Catlett Award for Outstanding School Psychologist. Peggy has been a member of OSPA for 12 years having joined in 1987-88. During her membership years, she has served in a variety of significant roles. She first joined the OSPA Executive Board as the Higher Ed Representative in 1988 and continued in this position through 1991. She was elected OSPA President in 1996. Since that term of office, other positions held by Peggy on the Executive Board are Strategic Plan Chair and her current position of Constitution, By-laws and Operations Handbook Chair.

Peggy has been a Professor of Psychology at the University of Central Oklahoma for 12 years. She is curriculum coordinator for the Psychometry and School Psychology certification programs, Director of the Special School Services Center, teaches diagnostic classes and supervises practica and intern students.

She received her Ph.D. in Applied Behavioral Studies in Education with an emphasis in School Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 1989, M. Ed. in Special Education in 1976 from Central State University and B. A. in English in 1962 from Central State College. She had 12 years of teaching experience in public schools in Colorado and Oklahoma in the areas of English, mathematics and learning disabilities.

In 1994 Peggy designed a unique program for certification in school psychology. Through the Continuing Education Section at UCO, one or more course offerings for the spring and fall semester with a weekend format were available. The courses required for certification in psychometry and school psychology offered 3 hour credit through 5 all-day sessions on Saturday at the Edmond campus.

Peggy has been instrumental in training many of the practicing school psychologists in Oklahoma today. Through the years she has shown willingness, commitment and professionalism in guiding prospective school psychologists through the maze of higher education training and entry into practice in the field. Her promotion of the standards and ideals in the field of school psychology is a legacy which she imparts to her students in training. She has also served as a role model for students by encouraging them to become involved in their professional organization. Peggy merits this recognition because of her many contributions to the provision of exemplary school psychological services to students of Oklahoma.
